Why Somatics?

socially-connected ritual for the grief we’ve been asked to carry in silence

Disenfranchised Grief

Grief that is not or cannot be openly acknowledged, socially validated, or publicly mourned. - Kenneth J. Doka

Each of us lives inside an assumptive world. This is the unseen story of how life is “supposed to” go, who we are, and what we can trust.

When that story breaks through betrayal, identity rupture, or major life transitions (even positive ones), it can feel as if the ground itself has given way. Any event that shakes this foundation can lead us into grief.

Because our society often reserves the word grief only for death, we can feel bewildered by the profound sense of loss that arises from other ruptures. Somatic breathwork offers a space to honor these unspoken losses with the gravity and care they deserve.
